The Blethering Place

Stephen Brown and the Bastion Band, since 1982, a group of like minded, unamplified musicians, perform traditional New Orleans jazz, roots country, blues, and R & B every Sunday evening 6:00 till 9:00 pm, at the Blethering Place Tea Room in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Lyrical, bluesy, and unhurried, the Bastion Band treats fans and diners alike to an evening of music rarely heard outside of the Crescent City. Featuring compositions of Jelly Roll Morton, WC Handy, and Louis Armstrong, plus country and blues music from the golden era, the Bastion Band carries on a tradition that's been alive for over one hundred years. If you are in the neighbourhood, drop into the Blethering Place and hear the band live. Our lineup changes depending on whether God is willing and the creeks don't rise, but most weeks the band is: Stephen Brown - piano, guitar, and vocals, Denny Box - drums, Aaron Watson - guitar, accordion, and saw, Eugene Dowling - tuba, Bryn Badel - trumpet, and Alf Sleigh - trombone.
